Agricultural Engineering, involves application of engineering to the agricultural production, processing, preservation and handling of food, feed and fibre. It also includes the transfer of engineering technology for the development and welfare of rural areas and masses.
Agricultural Engineering interventions have led to significant improvement in agricultural productivity by timeliness of operations, reduction in drudgery, prevention of post-harvest losses and achieving higher cultivation intensity. Timely operations with efficient use of inputs, post- harvest processing and value addition to agricultural produce and conservation and sustainable use of natural resources are essential for ensuring higher returns to the cultivators.
RVS Technical Campus – Coimbatore, Faculty of Engineering, Kannampalayam, Coimbatore was the first institute to introduce B.E. Agriculture Engineering course in Tamil Nadu under Anna University in the year of 2014-15.
The main objective of the course is to undertake basic, applied and adaptive research and education leading to the development, improvement of equipment, technology, process for crop production, irrigation and drainage, post-harvest technology and processing, and energy-use in agriculture and rural industries.
